The power of music | The sense of hearing is one of the most refined

Music is the true universal language. No matter the language, musical notes are capable of connecting you with sensations never felt before, even if shared with humanity.

The sense of hearing is one of the most refined that humans have, especially since we don’t have to make any effort to capture the sounds. In the case of highly sensitive people (HSP), This sense is usually one of the most refined. And even though we are saturated with auditory overstimulation, with adequate stimulation we connect and relax.

For me, there are thousands of moments when I listen to music

  • The time to connect with inner peace and serenity.
  • It’s time to increase my energy.
  • Time to let out the emotions stuck inside me.
  • The moment of the explosion of creativity.
  • The moment of feeling accompanied and welcomed by its sinuous rhythm.
  • A time to connect with something more transcendent and profound.

Music in the brain activates old emotional processing areas, such as limbic system. The music that connects us and that we like is in itself a reward because the reward circuit is activated in our brain, secreting further dopamine. It is precisely for this reason that our body can move and we can feel chills in front of certain pieces of music.

A few years ago, a patient told me aboutASMR effect”, It is a physical sensation that we can have when faced with certain sounds, which is experienced as a tingling in the back of the head and neckwhich brings us to a physiological state of deep relaxation, which reduces the heart rate. Exposing ourselves to the sounds that generate this sensation relaxes us deeply. The key is the rhythmic and repetitive sounds such as whispering near your ear, combing your hair, listening to the sound of rain, tapping your fingers rhythmically on the table, etc.

In my case, the sense of hearing is the one that I have developed the most and although I can easily become saturated and overwhelmed to excessively loud sounds or police or ambulance sirens, I can also rebalance myself exposing myself to the sounds of nature, Zen music or instrumental music. This is why for me listening to music is one of the keys to regulating myself when I lose connection with my center.

The focus

One of the great uses I make of music is to use it as a means of concentration.

On many occasions, my overthinking mind makes it difficult for me to focus on a task such as writing or reflecting.

In these cases, I take out my headphones, choose music with tones that stimulate me, such as meditation music or instrumental music with sounds of nature and my mind gradually reduces its activity until I concentrate. This is always my ritual when writing these articles, my subscribers’ emails, and any other activity that requires my creativity (creating cartoons for my social networks, making webinar presentations, etc.).

Over the years, I’ve realized this Music frees my creativity. It has the ability to connect me with my emotions, with my imagination and visualization skills. Every time I write with music, unexpected results come out.

Sometimes I connect so much with some songs I repeat them obsessively and even when I feel that I am not fully enjoying a song, when I feel that I have not completely immersed myself in its rhythms, messages and emotions, I stop it halfway and start listening to it again to immerse myself completely in it. I think this all has to do with those dopamine circuits in my brain, because For me, listening to music is a reward in itself.

Music focuses me a lot because it reduces environmental noise, it makes me happy my wandering attention focused on that rhythmic vibration and this is the key to being able to bring my attention where I want it, as well as allowing me to wander if I want. And concentration is the key to living a fuller life, enjoying the present.

A few years ago, in my spiritual explorations, I came across the Solfeggi. Solfeggios are certain energetic tones and frequencies in the form of sound waves, used for millennia by cultures around the world and which help us regain physical and mental health.

These frequencies were discovered by the biochemist Glen Rein in 1988, thus confirming how the sounds used by ancient spiritual traditions had effects on human DNA.

It is known that the Gregorian chants have a repairing effect on our DNA, singing and listening to the Hindu sacred mantra “Om”stimulates the vibration of cells and tissues, releasing accumulated toxins (as well as stimulating the vagus nerve).

Los Solfeggi They are so effective because their 9 frequencies resonate in harmony with Schumann resonance“the heartbeat of the Earth”, which regulates our brain activity and our physical health. If you want to know more about this topic, click Here

Some of the effects of Solfeggi are…

  • Solfeggio de 396 Hz: Reduces anxiety, fear and worries.
  • Solfeggio de 432 Hz: It reduces the heart rate, generates peace and serenity.
  • Solfeggio de 528 Hz: Repairs the body and heals it, reduces stress.
  • Solfeggio de 639 Hz: Balances emotions and improves mood.
  • Solfeggio de 741 Hz: It improves our intuition and creativity.
  • Solfeggio de 852 Hz: It connects us with our higher self and reduces negative thoughts.

emotional regulation

I must confess to you, dear reader, one of the ways in which I regulate myself more on an emotional level, it’s through music. On many occasions, I can’t regulate my emotions at the moment. But as part of my “emotional hygiene,” I reconnect with those unexplored or unregulated emotions when I listen to music, rescuing them from the depths of my emotional world.

And music helps me…

  • Distance myself from intense emotions, reducing my impulsiveness.
  • It allows me to gain perspective to reinterpret what happened.
  • It helps me reflect on what I have experienced and felt.
  • It moves me and helps me cry the tears I have accumulated.
  • Music connects me to loved ones who are no longer with me.
  • It even helps me connect with distant parts of myself, my versions of the past and future.

The advantages of using music as a means of regulating yourself are many…

  • Let’s separate more serotoninwhich gives us calm.
  • Let’s separate more dopaminelistening to music is a reward.
  • Segregate prolactina hormone that allows us to enjoy sad and melancholic music because it mediates the consolation of those emotions.
  • It reduces our levels of cortisolthe “stress hormone”.
  • We produce nitric oxidewhich dilates blood vessels.
  • We activate our brain almost entirely, generating a state of global activation.
  • It is known that some tones and frequencies have the ability to reprogram ours vagus nerve.

We cannot forget that music is nothing more than vibration… like everything that exists in this universe. Matter is nothing more than the vibration of atoms at a certain frequency. Our emotions are vibrations of energy that move through our body and brain and that we expand beyond ourselves. And the vibration is felt… not thought.

Exploring the musical world is a way to know ourselves more deeply. Learn to identify the sounds and vibrations that suit you… actively look for music that activates you and energizes you, even the one that connects you with sadness and melancholy, look for the music that connects you with your creativity and also the one that focuses all your attention on a single point.

for me, Music is a door to access my emotions and to let my more rational mind flow. In this way I achieve balance between the right (creativity) and left (rationality) hemispheres of the brain.

Get to know yourself through music and use it as a way to regulate yourself.

Without music life would be a mistake”
